July 13, 2010 --/ As part of Aviation Renewables’ commitment to improving social & environmental circumstances where it provides renewable lighting and power solutions, we are proud to support the Karamoja fight against hunger in coordination with solar airfield lighting systems currently supporting UN Operations in Africa.
In Karamoja, Uganda, your donation came just in time. Thanks to you, we surpassed our ambitious goal of $50,000 which will be matched dollar-for-dollar by a generous donor. Hundreds of supporters like you came together for Karamoja, providing a lifeline to more than 4,000 hungry children
just as the dry season begins and food becomes more scarce.
I’m proud to be part of this amazing community and to report back on our outstanding success in Karamoja.
More than 4,000 children will receive the food they desperately need thanks to you. The results of our June campaign exceeded all expectations, and thanks to an anonymous matching donor, our impact will go twice as far.
With these new resources, the Mother and Child Health Programme in Karamoja can give more children the nutrition they need to reach their full potential.
Says Bai Mankay Sankoh, a WFP team member in Karamoja: “At first, I just wanted to let the world know about Karamoja. But now, my staff and I have the chance to really break the cycle of hunger here. It’s such a relief to know I won’t have to go to mothers and tell them we can’t help feed their kids through the next four difficult months. Thank you for making that possible.”
