Aviation Renewables recognizes that through the course of conducting business, it contributes Greenhouse Gases to the atmosphere. Aviation Renewables is, however, committed to mitigating these emissions and fostering positive change by implementing a Climate Action Plan. The plan involves five steps and spells out the need for both limiting the number of emissions of greenhouse gases and offsetting those that are unavoidable. Aviation Renewables believes this action will mitigate its impact on the environment, foster greater environmental participation with its clients, manufacturers, partners and industry stakeholders and finally, inspire other corporations to join in the action.
Environmental Policy
Aviation Renewables is dedicated to promoting awareness and decisions that contribute to achieving an environmentally sustainable business. We aim to reflect our commitment to delivering sustainability in our own business practices and through our values and policies. We recognize this to be a continuous process of improvement rather than a steady–state process and thereby seek gradual improvement to our own environmental performance, while inspiring our manufacturers, partners and industry stakeholders to follow suit. Our Environmental Policy expresses Aviation Renewables’ commitment to achieving this aim within our own organization.
To deliver this Policy we have the following objectives:- To set the future direction of our environmental practices, conduct monitoring and seek continuous improvement in our environmental performance
- To set objectives and targets to improve our environmental performance, including sustainable sourcing, carbon management, the use of ethical supply chains, preventing pollution and the pursuit of recognized environmental standards amongst our suppliers
- To comply with relevant legislative and regulatory requirements, identifying and applying the best available techniques wherever possible
- To regularly review and audit our environmental practices and work with manufacturers, partners and industry stakeholders to improve our performance and that of our industry generally
- To work towards the relevant certification(s) for a company of our size and industry
- To use our resources and to meet these commitments in a manner that reinforces our activities
The Process
The process for this policy is broken down into five steps:- Calculate Total Emissions
- Create Reduction Strategies and Targets
- Offset Emissions
- Review reduction strategies and targets
- Communicate success and challenge other businesses to join us.
Step One
Total emissions attributable to Aviation Renewables will be calculated using the World Resource Institute’s The Greenhouse Gas Protocol. As the emissions attributable to Aviation Renewables are relatively small, this step needn’t be complex. Aviation Renewables will handle this step internally.
Step Two
Using the information from the emissions report, targets will be set for Aviation Renewables to reduce emissions. The targets will be based on emissions intensity, or emissions per annual revenue. Doing so allows Aviation Renewables to monitor its environmental performance during growth.
The second part of Step Two is to create reduction strategies in order to achieve the targets. These reduction strategies will fall under the three scopes that are outlined in the GHG emissions report that will be completed in Step One.
Step Three
Those emissions that are unavoidable for Aviation Renewables will be offset using verified carbon offsets. Credits will be purchased equal to the total amount of emissions outlined in the GHG emissions report. Attempts will be made to purchase offsets that originate in the areas of the world in which Aviation Renewables’ clients do business.
Step Four
Annually, Aviation Renewables will review the reduction targets and strategies to determine performance and relevance. The previous year’s performance will be included in the annual GHG emissions report
