21 May Portable Airfield Lighting System Delivered to Whitehorse International Airport
Portable Airfield Lighting System has been supplied, delivered and commissioned at Erik Neilson International Airport by Aviation Renewables. Located in Canada’s Yukon Territory, Whitehorse is home to Northern Canada’s largest international airport serving domestic, charter and international carriers. The Airport had a need for portable LED runway lighting capable of deployment during emergencies, construction activities and temporary runway closures. With the help of Aviation Renewables, the Airport selected an LED airfield lighting system consisting of LED runway, threshold, taxiway and REILs (Runway End Identifier Lights). A remote control operating system with two portable trailers capable of charging, transporting and storing the portable LED runway lighting system will be situated at the airport for operations year-round. At time of delivery, Aviation Renewables provided technical training to airport personnel in order to ensure safe operations, proper system deployment and routine maintenance.
Portable Airfield Lighting: Versatile Emergency Lighting Ready for Quick Deployment
Working with airport personnel, Aviation Renewables was able to design a portable airfield lighting system capable of operating in the challenging climate of Canada’s far north. The system is able to be deployed on either the primary or secondary runways at YXY. Should the airport require the portable airfield lighting systems for operations at other airports in the territory, the systems can be towed securely and simply by most tow vehicles. In addition, the international airport and Yukon Government will retain the ability to respond to unforeseen emergency situations such as electrical power failures, natural disasters and necessary maintenance requirements such as construction works, electrical airfield ground lighting maintenance, or training exercises.
A Budget-Friendly, Compliant System
With budget demands and tight timelines, Aviation Renewables was able to meet the airport’s expectations for runway safety, ICAO compliance, economic cost savings and long-term operations capability over the next twenty years. The entire system was delivered and commissioned within 6 weeks of the contract award.
