Solar Helipad Lighting at Northern Nevada for Medevac Operations

Aviation Renewables recently supplied a solar LED helipad lighting system for a remote heliport located in the mountains of Northern Nevada. This off-grid helipad lighting solution will allow the helipad to receive medevac helicopters day and night.

Solar LED Helipad Lighting Solution

The heliport operates on a remote site, where access to electrical power is limited. As a result, the client required a solar powered system that would operate for medevac operations without need for electrical inputs of any kind. Aviation Renewables supplied a solar LED helipad lighting system consisting of self-contained LED lighting that can be easily and quickly be installed. The system is designed to meet the requirements for ICAO Annex 14 Volume II and FAA chromaticity.

The TLOF lighting can operate in two modes: automatic dusk to dawn or on-demand radio control using a hand held RF controller. The handheld controller can also receive VHF transmissions from the cockpit of the aircraft, allowing the pilot to control the on/off and intensity functions directly. These self-contained solar helipad lights are installed on frangible mountings and require no maintenance outside of battery changes every 5-7 years. The solar lights have an expected life of 100,000 hours, making it a them a cost-effective safety tool for the operation of the isolated helipad.

Aviation Renewables has been delivering world-leading products and turn-key services to airports and helipads globally since 2008.
